The Sonics: Very Rare Live Comp (US, 1966/72)

Lead singer Gerry Roslie was no less than a white Little Richard, whose harrowing soul-screams were startling even to the Northwest teen audience, who liked their music powerful and driving with little regard to commercial subtleties. With hit after hit on the local charts (and influencing every local band that ever took the stage), the band inexplicably was never able to break out nationally, leaving its sound largely undiluted for mass consumption. Breaking up in the late '60s (after one ill-fated album attempt to water down their style for national attention), the Sonics continue today to be revered by '60s collectors the world over for their unique brand of rock & roll raunch.

Great stuff - the quality on the '72 recordings from the Paramount are great.
That show was their 'reunion' concert, just north of where they started in Tacoma. Of course, they recently reformed and played the paramount again, this past Halloween - 10/31/08. Can't wait to hear some recordings from that one. Roslie's voice is still amazing.

Tremendas las 3 canciones del año 66, aunque la calidad del sonido no sea el mejor tiene una crudeza que retrata precisamente, para mi, sus mejores años 1965-67(los últimos).

Thanks a lot for sharing this!!! This is the mini-album "Live Fanz Only", been looking for it since long, it's unavailable since many years. Sound qhality of 66 recordings is quite poor but waw!, the sonics live in 66! The 72 recordings are great; I already had these versions of psycho and witch (bonus tracks on cd re-release of their first 2 albums "psycho-sonic"), but lucille is also great.
Must-have for every sonics fan!

Question: Why are Kings of Leon popular? The Strokes/Yeah Yeah Blah's and Ugly Animal Collective? Answer: quite simply because the average human doesn't read your blog, or should I say, isn't exposed to it properly. Rest assured in your grave, everyone I know will be aware of your explosion. tick tick Boom, thanks again.
