The Pretty Things: Acid Burns! Live (UK, 1964/69)

Their early material consisted of hard-edged blues-rock influenced by Bo Diddley (they took their name from Diddley's 1955 song "Pretty Thing") and Jimmy Reed. They were known for wild stage behaviour and edgy lyrical content; their song "Midnight to Six Man" defined the mod lifestyle. Around this time, the first of what would be many personnel changes over the years also began, with Prince the first to go late in 1965. He was replaced by Skip Alan (born 11 June 1948 in London). Brian Pendleton left late in 1966, and was not initially replaced. Stax quit early in 1967. Jon Povey and Wally Waller joined to make the band a five piece once again.

Este tipo de discos siempre son de agradecer, pues recogen la esencia de todo esto, la música en vivo de tú a tú, eso sí que llega. Gracias Pablo.

Hey! Thanks a million for this one!
Personally I never heard the first part of this bootleg and “Johnny Be Goode” was certainly a surprise…didn’t know they appeared on the “Beat Room”!
About the French 1967 tracks, they appeared on other bootlegs in the same order but “Roadrunner” is actually from German TV Show Beat Club 1966.
“Children” and “Reincarnation” have shown up on youtube, as a further proof that there was no “Roadrunner” in between…check it out
Besides “Reincarnation” has been cleverly edited here to a more listenable size…but you want to see the whole of it (nearly 6 mins.long) with Skip Alan going mad on and off the stage!
Talking of footage the Blokker Festival is a well documented one, certainly Pretties fans have seen at least the first set (the one here) before, that also included “Don’t Bring me down” but NO “Midnight to Six Man” which I think is from French TV …
There are at least a couple of more tracks from the Amsterdam gig, 1969 on a different bootleg: the fantastic “Alexander” and “She says good morning”.

as usual another great posting Pablo .. many thanks.
For those interested I'll rip and post Pretty Things Live at The Heartbreak Hotel on my blog next week. Does have a couple of ticks on track 1 side 1 though but nothing serious.

Xyros said...

Seems like my memory is not as good as it was. The Pretties - Heartbreak Hotel has alot of skips on side 2 due to a bad pressing. To many to make it worth while ripping and posting. Sorry about that.

The Bomber said...

Aggg...i dont have that one myself, i ll send it to you if i have it...

Xyros said...

Pablo, software didn't help out much with the skipping on all of side 2 but my main recordplayer had no problem with the lp. Ripped it again and have posted it on my blog for you and who ever else is interested.
